Using MIDI files in Create
Got a melody sitting in an old project file? Or a score you’re working on? Drop it into Suno and hear it come to life! You can now upload a MIDI file to Create in Simple Mode, the same way you'd add audio files or images to create your songs.
What is MIDI?
MIDI is the language music gear has spoken since the 1980s. It's how a keyboard talks to a laptop, how a sequencer talks to a plugin and how your DAW remembers what you played. A MIDI file (.mid or .midi) holds no audio at all. It's a set of instructions - which notes play, when, how long and how hard. That's why opening one on its own sounds like nothing. Suno is where the fun begins.
Who this is for
Producers with a drive full of half-finished sessions. Export the MIDI and unlock those ideas as full tracks.
Composers and arrangers who want to hear a score played as a full ensemble instead of a stock piano patch.
Teachers and students who want to hear what's on the page with instrumentation.
If you already have MIDI files, you're ready to get started!
Where it works
MIDI upload is available on desktop web on Pro and Premier plans.
How to upload a MIDI file
Open Create.
In Simple mode upload MIDI files from your file browser or drag and drop MIDI files straight into the Create form. select the attachment button [confirm icon or label] and choose your .mid or .midi file.
Write a prompt describing the sound you want: genre, instrumentation, mood, energy.
Hit Create.
Your MIDI shapes the bones of the song. Your prompt shapes everything else.
Tips for better results
Name your instruments. The file tells Suno what to play; the prompt tells it what to play it on.
Describe the feel, not just the genre. "Late-night, loose, brushed drums" could get you further than just "jazz."
Use Studio to edit the MIDI files like quantizing the MIDI notes in the file, dragging them a bit off the grid to direct a more human feel, or change the key and scale with a few clicks
